The Kosovo Registry of Business Organizations and Trade Names is an independent executive agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
A new system of business registration is being introduced to replace the provisional registration regime which has been operated by the United Nations Interim Administration in Kosovo (UNMIK) since 2000.
Legislation
Registration of businesses is governed by UNMIK Regulation 2001/6 On Business Organizations and Administrative Direction 2002/22.
Types of business
The types of businesses registered by the Business Registry are:
The Kosovo Trust Agency is responsible for the privatisation of socially owned enterprises and for oversight of the management of publicly owned enterprises in Kosovo. These enterprises are not registered at the Business Registry.
Trade names
Administrative Direction 2002/22 introduces new provisions for the registration of trade names but these have not yet been implemented.
